Vaccinations 

Vaccinations are recommended as an essential part of your cat’s healthcare program and can protect them from serious and potentially fatal diseases. Prevention is the best medicine, as these diseases are mainly viral and don't respond well to medications, and treatment is expensive and sometimes unsuccessful.

A Healthy Pets Plus Cat Membership includes important vaccinations such as F3, F4, F5 and FIV.

These vaccinations protect cats against dangerous diseases including:

• Feline enteritis – a highly contagious gastroenteritis which progresses very rapidly and is often fatal.
• Feline respiratory disease – also known as cat flu, this complex disease causes sneezing, coughing and discharge from the eyes and noses.
• Feline Leukaemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Cat AIDS) - these viruses attack the immune system leaving the cat prone to infections and some forms of cancers.

Your pet's vaccination program will be advised by your local Greencross veterinarian. Healthy Pets Plus excludes export vaccinations.

Microchipping

Microchipping your cat can help avoid the heartache of losing your best friend. Without identification, it can be nearly impossible to reunite a pet with their rightful owner.

Microchipping is a quick, safe and simple procedure that is included in your Healthy Pets Plus Membership (if required).

How does a microchip work?

• A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected under your pet’s skin, this can be done during a normal consultation.
• The microchip is embedded with a code unique to your pet and it really is the most effective form of permanent identification.
• The chip contains an identification number and relays this information back to a microchip scanner and this unique code is linked to a national registry.
• If a pet is ever lost and is handed in at a veterinary clinic or animal shelter a microchip scanner is passed over the animal to reveal the unique code.
• The vet clinic or animal shelter can then refer to the database to identify the name, address and phone number of the owner, so they can be reunited.
